DIY Trendy Holiday Nails | Beauty Prep School | Refinery29

Our model uses a bit of tape, an Xacto knife (or you can just use a pair of scissors!), and lacquers from the new OPI Gwen Stefani Holiday Collection for a geometric mani that only looks hard to DIY.

One of the biggest and most innovative trends we saw everywhere on the spring '15 runways, from Delpozo to Kye to Creatures of Comfort, was the use of negative space — the space on your tips not covered by nail polish, that is. So, why not get a head start a season early and perfect your mani for the holiday circuit?

In reality, the hardest thing about this look is choosing two contrasting colors for the wow-factor that'll have everyone at the party inspecting your tips. We used Rollin' In Cashmere with First Class Desires here, but Love is Hot and Coal with Kiss Me — Or Elf! is just as good. Now, click play, and beat the trendsetters at their own game.
